Our engaging client process

Experience the evolution from start to finish. At D. Muscio fine jewelry studio, our creations are one of a kind. Each of our custom pieces remains 100-percent unique to the client and will never be replicated. There are five key steps in our custom jewelry design process.

During your first meeting with one of our jewelry artisans, you’ll discuss the custom jewelry design of your dreams, whether it’s a fine jewelry piece from scratch or a jewelry restyling of an heirloom item that you already have in your possession. If you are unsure of what you would like your new design to look like, we will go over all of your options to find the one that best suits your personality, lifestyle and style.
After your initial meeting, your designer will sketch three to five design ideas to present you with various looks. Sketching is an organic process — design ideas come as the artist sketches with your feedback and tastes always top of mind. From the presentation of sketches, you can either zero in on one of the designs, or decide that you like parts of the various designs selected for your custom piece.
Once the jewelry design has been agreed upon, our drafting artist takes the sketches from paper to computer, and generates a 3D design through a Computer-aided Design (CAD) program. This process involves developing dimensions, how the parts and pieces interrelate and the best way to produce a wax replica to get the best possible finished product. (Magic!) You are then able to review the custom jewelry design in 3D, and again, decide to make any modifications if you so wish.
Upon issuing your approval, your new, unique fine jewelry design is then transformed into a life-size wax model for you to try on before the actual jewelry item is produced. It is the exact replica of what your piece is going to look like. At any given time, if you need any changes made or to go back to the drawing board, the D. Muscio team is happy to accommodate your request. This is one of the great things about working with a custom jewelry artisan studio like D. Muscio — the design process is fluid and we can tweak a design until the very end.
Next, your jewelry piece will be cast, or hand fabricated by our metalsmith as the design dictates, finished and polished, and set with the stones of your choice. The whole custom process takes approximately 10 to 12 weeks from the start to finish. You will be able to see it at several steps during the process to ensure your special jewelry item is exactly what you want.

Dawn helped me design three wonderful pieces and each were unique and wonderful. What was particularly wonderful was Dawn and Jackie’s collaboration to help re-invent jewelry/stones from my grandmother to design a ring and pair of earings that I will cherish for many years.

Maureen, Brookhaven GA

Beautiful earrings!  Thank you for transforming my diamonds into gorgeous new pieces that I am now proud to own.  The experience was a delight – beautiful and detailed drawings, perfect wax and impeccable fabrication.  I am a lucky girl to be on the receiving end.  And then there is that jewelry box!

Dana, St. Louis MO

I have an engagement ring that didn’t fit correctly due to a difference in sizing of my finger and knuckle.  Dawn worked with me for months to get the fit right, starting with the least expensive options.  I now have a ring that fits perfectly, is stationary and easy to remove with a custom hinged and locking shank created by Dawn.

Cathy, Atlanta GA

Dawn created a stunning wedding ring by upcycling stones from the engagement rings of my husband’s great-grandmother and grandmother,  along with the wedding band of his mother.  I now wear an heirloom ring representing four generations of marriage!   I love the ring and the story behind it!
